We went to Sale mid-week on one of the coldest nights of the year on the metrolink. Firstly we dropped in to see Tony Beuna at Valencia Tapas to have a beer and wish him Happy Christmas and then we went across Northenden Road to the Zumar, which was recommended by one of our readers.

This is no ordinary Indian restaurant. The cuisine is based on Indian fusion, which is a unique combination of traditional spices delivering wonderful flavours.

Although it was a night to be at home by the fire, the restaurant was half full. We were seated and ordered a bottle of Pinot.

To start with I ordered a prawn puree and my colleague ordered chicken chilli fry. They were an ideal choice before we got to the really good stuff.

For the main event we ordered balti chicken tikka, garlic chicken roast, keema naan, spinach and potatoes and pilau rice.

The Indian fusion had worked its magic; the flavours were deep, spicy and sultry. It took a little work, but we cleared the lot between us.

The staff were attentive, polite and helpful. The bill came to £46, which is terrific value for this quality of food.

Will we return?

Oh yes, this is well worth a return visit.
