Short Breaks
At this time of year when the last summer holidays seem a distant memory and the next ages into the future, it’s great to have a short break to revitalise your spirits.
There are many European Cities easily accessible from the UK, with the advent of all the low cost carriers. The popular cities such as Paris, Amsterdam and Rome never go out of fashion, but more unusual destinations such as Krakow, Marrakech, Budapest (pictured) and Helsinki are gaining in popularity.
Many of the Eastern European Cities have wonderful Old Town Squares and markets with beautiful architecture. These cities have not been developed as much as many in the UK have – so maintaining the wonderful old buildings and giving a real sense of history.
Self drive short breaks are also popular, giving the opportunity to visit some of the quieter villages and towns in an area, which really gives a feel of the local way of life.
You might like to take your own car and use one of the many ferry services or the Channel Tunnel. This means you have the advantage of bringing home as much as you want, souvenirs, clothes and wine, without worrying about baggage allowances on flights.
For a touch of total luxury, several cruise ships offer 3 or 4 night cruises from Southampton, often over a weekend. It is a wonderful opportunity to be fed, watered (metaphorically speaking, there is always alcohol on tap) and pampered without breaking the bank.
