Mimi Restaurant is located directly opposite Sale Town Hall and very close to Sale Metrolink station, which was our chosen mode of travel.

Although it has been some time since I last visited this restaurant I recently had a pleasant lunch there and thought it would be worth an evening visit.

There were two waiting staff on duty, Danny and Danni (really). They took our coats and seated us at a nice table at the rear where we could watch the diners in the already half full restaurant. We were quickly furnished with menus, a jug of iced water and a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

The à la carte menu has a very good selection of Italian, English and pizza dishes, with fish, meat and chicken. There is something here for everyone, including vegetarians.

My colleague ordered Bruschetta to start. It came with parmesan shavings on top, was made with tasty tomatoes, fine olive oil and a little salad on the side for dressing and taste. This was very good. I tried the deep fried goats cheese. The breadcrumb dressing was very dark brown and the goats cheese had very little flavour. For the main course my companion had seafood penne; prawns, salmon and other tasty fishy bits served on a bed of penne and coated in a lovely tomato based sauce. Again, this was very good.

One of my all time favourite Italian dishes is lasagne, which I find it hard to resist once I see it on the menu. However, on this occasion it was not the best. The pasta was thick and spongy and the surrounding sauce had reduced to a syrupy consistency.

We decided to forgo pudding. Overall my colleague was delighted and I think I came second in the Dinner Stakes.

This was a disappointing meal (for me) in a nice restaurant that can do much better. They proved it at lunch two weeks ago. The customers all seemed to be enjoying themselves and there was a pleasant atmosphere. The service was prompt and friendly. The bill came to £43, including the bottle of wine.

There is also a three course lunch offer and an Early Bird menu if you eat between 5.30 and 7.00 pm.

Will we return?

Yes, but I will try the chicken next time.

Our Verdict

Atmosphere: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Food: 6/10
Value for money: 7/10
