I like Deckers at Sale Water Park and have lunched there twice recently. It is next to Junction 6 on the M60. This is a lovely location with the upstairs restaurant overlooking the Water Park. It is very pleasant to sit by a large, panoramic window, watching the boating activities and the wild fowl outside on the wide expanse of water.

The restaurant is well decorated and spacious. Whenever I have dined here it has always been busy with family groups and couples, which is always a good sign. We were promptly seated by a window with a lovely view of the water.

There is a full a la carte menu and an early diner that is available at lunchtimes and early evenings. There is also a two course promotion with a glass of wine for £12.99. They will also let you mix and match between the menus, which is just what we did.

The wine list fits the bill nicely with a reasonably priced selection. We had two bottles of wine, both Chilean, a Merlot and a Chardonnay; and both good quality.

Complementary crisp salads are served as a part of the meal with a selection of dressings. The expansive starter menu was on a promotional half price, which was welcome news.

So over the two visits we sampled whitebait, home made soup, breaded mushrooms and black pudding for starters and they were all very good.

For the main courses we had grilled salmon, individually cooked steak and ale pies and sea bass. I particularly liked the freshly baked pies, straight from the oven. There was a choice of vegetables. All of the main dishes had ample portions and were well cooked. There is also an option to upgrade to steaks for a small extra supplement.

For dessert we had an ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce follwed by nice, frothy coffees.

The service was as friendly and efficient as ever. Our fellow diners all seemed to be enjoying themselves and the restaurant had a family - friendly feel to it. And as for value for money this is very hard to beat.

Will we return?

Yes, I think an evening visit to explore the a la carte menu will be worthwhile..

Our Verdict

Atmosphere 8/10
Service 9/10
Food 9/10
